Looking for a project to work on in-between my first and second year of graduate school, I discovered a digital art exhibition in NYC called Midnight Moment, which projects moving art pieces on Times Square billboards at midnight. Beecoming Celestial was my project submission. This project gave me the opportunity to create something from start to finish on my own terms. I was fascinated by ink, outer space, and beauty of insects and wanted to create a video focusing on bees at the center of the universe. To create this project, I explored creating close up moving textures. I illustrated and animated insects, learned how to film ink, and experimented working with wax. I later had the opportunity to project part of this video art piece onto the Washington Square monument, allowing me to temporary graffiti the monument with insects. This project later inspired my MFA thesis Office Sense which explored moving textures as ambient experiences. This project was created with After Effects.
